Former President Donald Trump is "ebullient" despite his four upcoming criminal trials and his current civil trial, not a "defeated man" as his former lawyer Michael Cohen suggests, said political consultant Dick Morris.
"Nobody told him he's defeated. He's really ebullient," Morris said Thursday during an appearance on Newsmax's "American Agenda."
"He's now at 59[%] or 61% in the 12-way Republican primary, and he might literally get two-thirds of the votes even though it's 12 opponents.
"More importantly, he's now six points or more ahead of [President Joe] Biden; and that's very significant. He's gone from three points behind in 2020 — when he supposedly lost the election by three — and now he's ahead by six. That's a 10-point swing.
"We're finding in our polls that 12% of the people in America who voted for Trump now say they would vote for Biden. So there's nothing desperate about him; he's doing great," he added.
Trump, the front-runner for the Republican presidential nomination, spent two days this week in a Manhattan courtroom where a civil fraud trial is unfolding. He is accused of grossly inflating his net worth and the value of marquee assets on paperwork used to secure financing and make deals.
Cohen testified Tuesday that he worked to boost the supposed value of the former president's assets to "whatever number Trump told us to."
He also described Trump as a "defeated man" during a press gaggle.
"I saw a defeated man," Cohen said. "I saw somebody that knows that it's the end of The Trump Organization: already found guilty of fraud, the license will ultimately be taken, and now this entire case is merely about how much. This is merely about how much disgorgement [New York Attorney General Letitia James] will be seeking."
Morris said Republican voters see through all the indictments of Trump.
"They see that this is an effort by the courts and by the establishment to try to keep him out. ... And they feel these charges against him are trumped-up and phony. They feel like this is designed simply to take him out of the election. ... The more they do this, the more Trump moves up," he added.
