Jess O'Connell, the CEO of the Democratic National Committee, announced she is leaving the organization, NBC News is reporting.

O'Connell had joined the DNC last May to help Chairman Tom Perez try to turn the party around after Hillary Clinton lost the presidential race to Donald Trump, the network news said.

"I'm proud to have helped to rebuild our party at a time when we needed it most," O'Connell wrote in an email to DNC staffers. "I am grateful to Chairman Tom Perez for the opportunity to serve during such a pivotal moment in our history as we fight with everything we've got to protect and promote Democratic values and to elect more Democrats nationwide."

A copy of the email was obtained by Politico.

NBC News reported the email to staffers offered no reason for her departure. However, the network news said her reason for leaving was a personal one.

The CEO oversees the day-to-day operations and political strategy of the DNC.

According to NBC News, Perez is already searching for a replacement for O'Connell, who will depart next month.

Perez, in a statement to The Washington Post, said O'Connell joined the DNC "when it needed her most." And he added: "Her leadership brought a laser-like focus on winning elections up and down the ballot."

O'Connell had a senior role in Hillary Clinton's 2008 presidential campaign, NBC News noted.
