Former presidential adviser and campaign consultant Dick Morris told Newsmax TV on Friday that President Donald Trump is wisely positioning himself as the candidate who can rebuild the United States as it emerges from riots and the novel coronavirus outbreak.
"The fundamental reality of our politics now is that Trump loses on the question of who's better at containing the virus," Morris told "Spicer & Co." "Trump loses on who's better at stopping racist violence.
"Trump wins overwhelmingly on the question of who's better at rebuilding the country after the virus and after the riots. So, Trump loses the past but wins the future. And this was the first day of the future."
"He's really now focusing on the idea that he can build the country back better than it was. And that's got to be his theme, and that's got to be absolutely destructive for Biden."
The remarks by Morris, who was a long-time adviser to Bill Clinton while Clinton was governor of Arkansas and U.S. president, came after he was asked to comment on former vice president and presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden's comments regarding the American public.
In what some are likening to Hillary Clinton's reference to Trump voters as "deplorables," Biden – during a virtual town hall Thursday – said "anywhere from 10-15% of the people out there who are just not very good people."
"It's ridiculous," Morris said. "When a candidate starts running against the voters, you know his campaign in trouble."
