Rep. Diane Black: Law Needed to Dedicate Wall Crowdfunding Money

Americans already have the opportunity to become involved in funding a wall at the Mexican border by donating through a crowdfunding effort, Rep. Diane Black, R-Tenn.,  said Monday, and she is seeking legislation to set up a dedicated fund so the money gathered will be used only for that purpose.

"We are setting up a dedicated fund, where people who truly believe what the president believes, that we should secure our border, would have an opportunity to be part of that," the Tennessee Republican told Fox News' "Fox and Friends."

Democrats will not go along with Republicans when it comes to funding the wall, she added. "So we thought this was a good idea, to give the American people to have a chance to have a voice in it."

Donations are pouring in, but as for now, the money just goes into the general fund, with nothing officially saying how the dollars would be used.

"This sets up a dedicated fund, and we just need to get a requisite number of sponsors, and then we'll be able to bring it up in committee and pass it in the House and then take it over to the Senate," she said.

President Donald Trump knows about the crowdfunding and the push for the legislation, said Black.

"I hope the president's watching this morning and that he will give a shout-out at different events that he does," she said. "As a matter of fact, he's going to be here in Nashville tomorrow, and I hope he'll give a shout-out to the people here in Tennessee that want to fund the wall that he believes is necessary and the American people believe is necessary."
