Ohio’s GOP Gov. Mike DeWine said Sunday he’s never heard President Donald Trump disparage U.S. service members, and chastised anonymous sources for not coming forward with allegations to the contrary.

In an interview on ABC News’ “This Week,” DeWine defended the president as he faces widespread criticism after an Atlantic article claimed he'd called service members who died in wars "losers" and "suckers."

“Anytime I’ve been with the president and if there’s been any discussion about the military, he’s been extremely respectful ... that’s been my personal experience,” DeWine said.

“Anonymous sources are interesting but people should come forward,” he added about the sourcing for the report.

DeWine said he believes Ohio will likely remain a red state and vote for Trump despite the controversy over the Atlantic report, but warned: “neither side should take Ohio for granted.”

“A lot of things comes out in a campaign,” DeWine said, adding, “When they only come out during a campaign people are somewhat skeptical about them.”

“What the president has done in regard to the economy before we hit the virus, people are generally happy with that,” he said of Ohio voters. “The president made commitments in regards to the Supreme Court and federal courts, I think people in Ohio are happy with that… I think the president will win Ohio.”

But, DeWine declared, “Ohio is a battleground state. Neither side should take Ohio for granted.”
