House Intelligence Committee head Rep. Devin Nunes said Sunday he wants to hold Attorney General Jeff Sessions in contempt of Congress for not handing over requested information on Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act abuses.

In remarks to Fox & Friends Sunday, the California Republican issued the warning after failed attempts to get access, with both a letter and subpoena.

“We have to move quickly to hold the Attorney General of the United States in contempt and that’s what I’m going to press for this week,,” Nunes declared Sunday.

According to the Washington Examiner, Nunes sent a classified letter two weeks ago to Sessions that was never acknowledged, followed by a subpoena last week.

"Then on Thursday we discovered that they are not going to comply with our subpoena," Nunes said.

According to the Examiner, Assistant Attorney General Stephen Boyd wrote the panel its decision to not comply was made after consulting with the White House; he also said the DOJ was willing to discuss other ways to accommodate the House panel.

Nunes’ committee has been looking into allegations of FISA surveillance abuses by the Justice Department and FBI that led to spying on former Trump campaign aide Carter Page.

On Sunday, the chairman didn’t say what exactly the panel wants to see, calling it "very important.”

Nunes also said he's not going to take any "excuse" that relates to concerns about national security. "How many times have we heard this argument throughout this investigation?" he asked.

In February, Nunes' panel secured the release of a memo that outlined abuses by the FBI and the Justice Department against the Trump campaign, particularly in the write-up and approval of FISA warrant applications to spy on Page. Panel Democrats subsequently issued a rebuttal.
