It was a “very bad week” for both President Donald Trump — and special counsel Robert Mueller’s probe of possible Trump campaign collusion with Moscow and obstruction of justice, Harvard law professor Alan Dershowitz said Sunday.

In an interview on NBC News’ “Meet The Press,” Dershowitz chided new Trump legal team member Rudy Giuliani, saying Team Trump “has to speak with a single narrative.”

“I think this was a very bad week for the Trump team,” Dershowitz said. “It was also a very bad week for the Mueller team in light of [federal Judge T.S. Ellis] who rebuked the Mueller team” for squeezing the former campaign manager to get information that would help impeach Trump.

Dershowitz denounced Giuliani’s comments on Fox News about money paid by Trump lawyer Michael Cohen to porn star Stormy Daniels is “admitting to enough that warrants scrutiny.”

“Giuliani may have a point, that is, motives are complicated,” he said. “The money may have been paid for a variety of motives, to save embarrassment in the family, to help the campaign. It's a close case on whether or not there's any violation of any election laws. If there are violations, they don't seem to be very substantial.”

But he said “the approach last week of the Trump team plays into the hands of Mueller's tactic to try at any cost to try to find technical violations against lower ranking people so that they can be squeezed,” he said.

Dershowitz declared that despite it being “a bad week for both sides,” it was “a good week for America.”

“Americans get the benefit now of a judge who is prepared to look at this from an objective point of view and to express views that all experienced people know, this is the way prosecutors operate,” he said of Judge T.S. Ellis’s remarks in court last week concerning the Manafort case and Mueller’s prosecution of it.

“Giuliani knows it, too,” Dershowitz said. “He shouldn't be playing into their hands.”
