Donald Trump would go down in history as a "great president" if he can denuclearize North Korea as a result of meetings with the nation's leader Kim Jong Un, according to CNN anchor Erin Burnett.

On CNN's "OutFront" on Thursday night, Burnett led a panel that discussed the announcement Trump would engage in talks with the North Korean leader this year.

"Just an extraordinary evening and, of course, opening the door to the big question," Burnett commented.

"If President Trump could truly solve this problem, that would be going down as a great president. There is no getting around that."

A video clip of the remarks were posted by Mediaite.

Beforehand, CNN contributor Major Gen. James Marks said Kim would be running the risk to be viewed as "irrelevant" and "not to be taken seriously" if he did not acknowledge the military coalition between America and South Korea was not "one of the best in the world."

He sounded a more cautious note as well.

"There might be something real here, but again a large dose of skepticism has to be taken with all of this," he told Burnett.
