American Bridge, a super-PAC founded by Democratic operative David Brock, has launched a website designed to pressure President-elect Donald Trump to completely sell off his family business and release his tax returns, The Hill reports.
"Last year, Trump made nearly $557 million from at least 111 businesses operating in 18 countries," says the website, Trump Must Sell.
"With nearly half of that income coming from 96 shadowy shell companies, there are countless ways for Trump and his family to secretly profit from foreign and domestic interests seeking his favor.
"And Trump and his businesses owe hundreds of millions of dollars to 150 institutions — making Trump highly vulnerable to pressure from his financial lenders on Wall Street."
The website provides links to a petition to "Tell Donald Trump: Sell of your businesses or risk a constitutional crisis." It also features an interactive map showing where Trump's businesses are located throughout the world. And it includes a report detailing "how Donald Trump will profit off his presidency."
"Donald Trump is on the verge of turning the entire federal government into a subsidiary of his business empire," The Hill quotes American Bridge President Jessica Mackler. "This isn't just unprecedented in American history, it's unethical and unconstitutional."
The website calls Trump's businesses "a web of conflicts of interest" and calls on him to immediately release his tax returns "and give the American people a clear understanding of his and his family's financial standing, debts and all potential conflicts of interest."
Word of the website comes the same day Trump has scheduled a news conference where he is expected to outline how he will separate himself from his business empire, ABC News reports.
Trump has said in the past that he will turn over his company to his two sons, according to the network news.
