Democrats have formed a "shadow cabinet" to rebut the Trump administration's statements, actions and tweets in real time, Axios reported on Monday.
The shadow cabinet, which started tweeting on Monday morning, consists of 15 former Democratic officials, activists and experts. It was put together by former New York City Public Advocate Mark Green during the last six weeks and describes itself as "an agency-by-agency one-stop portal debunking [President Donald] Trump and staff."
The first tweet, from the handle @ShadowingTrump, included a mission statement that acknowledged Trump's legal legitimacy to be president. But it stated that "he lacks moral legitimacy when he incessantly distorts, denounces, misdirects, cherry picks and self-enriches in an almost Orwellian long con. Those engaging in daily disinformation deserve daily responses."
The group sets out its goals to "decipher Trump's 'twistifications,' suggest progressive alternatives, and explain why his contempt for the media, judiciary, science and dissent reflects a creeping authoritarianism."
