Newt Gingrich: Trump the Big Winner in NH Primary

The big winner in New Hampshire's primary wasn't Sen. Bernie Sanders or any other Democrat, but instead was President Donald Trump, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich insisted Wednesday.

"His rally the night before was massive," Gingrich told Fox News' "America's Newsroom." "I think he got twice as many votes as Barack Obama got in his re-election effort in the primary back in 2012, and he has the joy of watching the Democrats continue to fall apart."

Meanwhile, he said he's concerned about the upcoming caucuses in Nevada, which sound "suspiciously like it could become Iowa. This is a party that wants to run the national health system, and they can't run a state caucus."

That said, Gingrich commented that Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., is probably the best of the slate of Democratic candidates, as she is a "moderate by their standards, a liberal by our standards, but she is not irrational. She is a disciplined person and has done very well in Minnesota."

Her challenge, though, is that the race is going to constantly become more expensive, said Gingrich, and he does not know how she'll raise the level of money needed by the time the Super Tuesday primaries roll around.

Sanders can do it, as he is the "one Democrat who can compete head to head with (Mike) Bloomberg and slug it out financially," said Gingrich, "but I'm not sure Klobuchar can."

Meanwhile, it was a "bad sign" when former Vice President Joe Biden called a college student a "lying dog-faced pony soldier," said Gingrich.

"I just think you are watching a guy at the end of his career gradually breaking down, doing goofy things, and I think at some point there will be a family intervention and explain to him this ain't going to happen. We need to just relax and go home," said Gingrich. "That probably can't happen until after South Carolina."

Biden has a worse money problem than Klobuchar, he added, and if Sen. Elizabeth Warren leaves the race, Klobuchar will be the only woman.
