Democrats are concerned that the party will focus too much on President Donald Trump if they win control of Congress in November, according to a new poll from Pew Research Center.
Pew asked voters, "if Democrats take control of Congress, they will focus too much on investigating the Trump administration."
- 58 percent of voters said "somewhat" or "very" concerned.
- 41 percent of voters said "not at all" or "not too" concerned.
- 40 percent of Democrats said "somewhat" or "very" concerned.
- 59 percent of Democrats said "not at all" or "not too" concerned.
The survey also asked, "if Republicans keep control of Congress, they will not focus enough on oversight of the Trump administration."
- 48 percent of voters said "somewhat" or "very" concerned.
- 40 percent of voters said "not at all" or "not too" concerned.
- 31 percent of Republicans said "somewhat" or "very" concerned.
- 66 percent of Republicans said "not at all" or "not too" concerned.
Democrats were more likely to express concern about their own party than Republicans, partly because Democrats are less united in their views on the investigation into Russian election interference and connections with the Trump campaign, according to The Washington Post.
A CNN poll from mid-June showed that just under a quarter, 23 percent, of Democrats don’t approve of special counsel Robert Mueller’s performance, and many just want politicians to focus on governing.
