Citing recent polling, Politico says the move to impeach President Donald Trump appears to be turning into a liability for some Democratic congressional lawmakers.
The American Action Network, which is running anti-impeachment ads, polled three key on Sunday and Monday, Politico noted. AAN is one of the main House GOP outside groups.
It surveyed the swing districts of Reps. Susie Lee, D-Nev., and Anthony Brindisi, D-N.Y. and the heavily Trump district of Rep. Kendra Horn, D-Okla.
AAN said 53% of voters in Brindisi’s and Lee’s districts are less likely to vote for them if they back impeachment. The poll also found that 48% in Horn’s district are less likely to vote for her if she supports impeachment.
And more than 60% in each of the districts said voters, not the impeachment process, should decide if Trump stays in office.
The AAN said 400 likely voters in each of the districts were surveyed. The margin of error is plus or minus 4.9 percentage points.
Meanwhile, Brad Parscale, Trump’s campaign manager, said a poll of Horn’s district showed 45% is for impeachment.
Along with the poll results, he tweeted: “Nancy Pelosi is marching members of her caucus off the plank and into the abyss. Impeachment is killing her freshman members and polling proves it. Here’s data on Rep. Kendra Horn (OK-5). More to come on other members soon. Say goodbye to your majority, Nancy!”
