Trump Preemptively Strikes Dem Attacks on Florence Response

By    |   Tuesday, 18 September 2018 01:03 PM EDT

President Donald Trump is now calling the Democrats' shots before they come, tweeting "Democrats will start ranting" about a failed U.S. response to Hurricane Florence, adding "this will be a total lie, but that’s what they do."

"Right now, everybody is saying what a great job we are doing with Hurricane Florence – and they are 100 percent correct," President Trump wrote in the first of two tweets. "But don’t be fooled, at some point in the near future the Democrats will start ranting . . .

". . . that FEMA, our Military, and our First Responders, who are all unbelievable, are a disaster and not doing a good job," President Trump wrote in an ensuing tweet. "This will be a total lie, but that’s what they do, and everybody knows it!"

President Trump's pre-emptive slam on Democratic criticism comes after the controversy over the elevated death totals from Puerto Rico's aftermath of two hurricanes that struck the island late in 2017.

Puerto Rico Democratic leaders had ripped the U.S. government and President Trump on the disaster relief response, claiming the administration was minimizing the death of Puerto Ricans and failing in the U.S. response from the storm, but FEMA Administrator Brock Long told "Fox News Sunday" the island's dilapidated infrastructure was to blame for aftermath deaths, not the hurricane emergency response or President Donald Trump, as Democratic island leaders claim.

Long has faced criticism of his own, as the Inspector General has referred an investigation of his travel spending to federal prosecutors, according to The Wall Street Journal.
