Democrats have launched a wave of attack ads in Georgia to back Jon Ossoff's bid for Congress against Republican Karen Handel, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution is reporting.

Neither candidate captured a majority of the vote in Tuesday's special election to replace Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price — forcing them into a June runoff for the House seat, The Hill reported. Ossoff led the 18-candidate field.

About $450,000 was put up by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee for an ad calling Handel "just another career politician taking us for a ride." The ad questions her use of public funds.

The ad ends with: "Karen Handel, living the high life. She'd fit right in in Washington."

And DCCC spokeswoman Meredith Kelly warned there are more ads in the works.

"The commercial, combined with an anti-Ossoff ad Wednesday from a GOP group, are a sign of what's to come," Greg Bluestein wrote in the Journal. "The more than $14 million spent on ads ahead of Tuesday's special election is just the beginning of a proxy fight between national Republicans and Democrats in what could be the most expensive special election on record."

Ossoff collected more than $500,000 in donations after the Tuesday vote, and is said to be using the money for a barrage of ads, the Journal reported.
