Congress is now being "defined by what we don't do" — and that calls for lawmakers to begin dealing with the current budget situation and other tough issues, Rep. David Jolly told Newsmax TV on Wednesday.

"We've gone from a 'do nothing' Congress to a 'try nothing' Congress," the Florida Republican told "Newsmax Prime" host J.D. Hayworth. "We get elected to wrestle with hard issues, to let the American people work its will through their elected officials."

Jolly, 42, who was elected to Congress last year, cited the current budget deal that was negotiated with Republican leaders and the White House.

"We need a bit of political sobriety right now and recognize that we are facing a potential default on our debt," he told Hayworth. "A potential government shutdown on Dec. 11 and complete intransigence between a progressive president and our conservative Congress.

"We need political sobriety, we need answers. It's too easy to say no."
