President Donald Trump's call for tax reform legislation by year's end appears to be on track, and he's been working hard to make that happen, former campaign adviser and Citizens United President David Bossie said Wednesday.

"I certainly hope so," Bossie told Fox News' "Fox & Friends," when asked if the president's call will happen. "The president wants it, he's been working hard for it."

The House, by passing its bill, has given the Senate an opportunity to deliver tax reform legislation, Bossie commented, and should the measure pass, "it will be another promise made, another promise kept for this president," he added.

There are some Republican senators who oppose the bill, but the changes they are seeking could make the measure an even better one in some cases, Bossie said.

Wisconsin Sen. Ron Johnson, for example, wants to be sure that the bill also benefits small businesses as well as large ones, said Bossie, and he and others, including Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski has been a "productive partner" in the negotiations, said Bossie.

"I'm really excited about the possibility," he commented. "We still have several senators who really haven't made it known where they are, and they think we see where they were before, so we are a little bit hesitant to get too far out in front of it."

Trump also has made a wall at the Mexican border and the issue of border security one of the top priorities of his administration, said Bossie, and building the wall is a plan he promises to keep.

"It is important for national security, border security, border patrol agents," said Bossie, while commenting on the death of a Border Patrol guard and the injury of his partner on Saturday.

"I've been down to the border. A lot of you guys have as well. The ability to throw rocks and how these assaults in its wide open spaces is there is no barrier at nothing to stop it from happening. I'm surprised that it doesn't happen more often."

Bossie also commented on a tweet by Trump on Wednesday, when the president railed against National Football League owners talking about keeping their teams in the locker room during the national anthem.

"I'm with the president 100 percent," said Bossie. "It is outrageous that Roger Goodell would allow — would recommend it seems — that the players stay in the locker room . . . it is the opposite of the right answer, Roger Goodell.

"We must stand tall for the American way of life and for a flag and for veterans."
