Rep. Darrell Issa Thursday congratulated House Speaker Paul Ryan for his endorsement of presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump.
"Many of us are pleased that Paul Ryan, as the highest-ranking Republican in the country, has joined the Trump team," the eight-term California congressman told
Wolf Blitzer on CNN.
His state holds its contest on Tuesday, the last day of the 2016 primary season.
After stalling for weeks,
Ryan quietly endorsed Trump in a post on Twitter — saying that he would vote for the developer in November.
Issa also bashed
Hillary Clinton's attack on Trump in San Diego on Thursday, saying that the developer espouses a "dangerously incoherent" foreign policy that would "take our country down a truly dangerous path."
He noted that Clinton "froze" during the 2012 Benghazi attacks, in which four Americans died, a revelation that emerged from congressional investigations into the assaults.
"This is testimony before our committee that makes it clear that she may have stayed awake all night but she was frozen in place," said Issa, the former chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee. "It's important because Hillary Clinton was there to make the mistakes before 9/11, during 9/11 — and be part of the cover-ups and lies about 9/11."
