Former House Intelligence Committee lawyer Daniel Goldman, who was the lead counsel in the impeachment inquiries against President Donald Trump, announced in a tweet Sunday he has coronavirus.

"My #COVID19 test came back positive," Goldman wrote, adding "I am almost back to 100%. I'm lucky enough not to fall in the vulnerable category and, for me, it was just like the flu."

He also harshly criticized the Trump administration's handling of the crisis, writing in another tweet the president "can try to gaslight the American public by repeatedly saying that everyone who needs a test can get one, but that was not true one month ago (when it should have been the case, and it is not true today (when there is no excuse)."

Goldman started warning in recent days about the difficulty in obtaining coronavirus testing, saying he had been unable to get one in New York despite experiencing a fever and headache and added self-quarantine was his only option, according to Business Insider.

He eventually went to Connecticut, where he was able to get tested.

Goldman added in another message on Twitter: "Given his stated desire to 'keep numbers down' for his political benefit, it is impossible to reach any conclusion other than that the president is sacrificing the health of the American public for his own personal interests."

House Intelligence Committee  Chairman Adam Schiff, D-Calif., said in a statement Goldman, who left Schiff’s office 10 days ago to return to his home in New York, "likely" contracted the virus after he finished his position, but the congressman's office "will still be taking additional precautions over the next few days," Business Insider reported.
