Rep. Meuser to Newsmax: Dems Aim Same-Sex Marriage Bill at Their Base

House Democrats, led by Speaker Nancy Pelosi, are pushing to codify same-sex marriage and contraception into law because they're "trying to stoke things that are not important right now to the American people," Rep. Dan Meuser said on Newsmax on Tuesday.

Americans are more worried about "inflation, which is out of control, the border, and gasoline prices through the roof," the Pennsylvania Republican said on Newsmax's "National Report." "That's really what's taking place here."

The moves, Meuser said, are "political" and aimed to tell the Democrats' base that "Hey, we're doing something for you."

"All the while, Nancy Pelosi and others are congratulating themselves, [but] this bill that they passed last week, anyway, this abortion bill permitting late-term abortions up until partial birth, it's not going to see the light of day, thank God, in the Senate," he added.

The abortion bill, had it passed, would have put the United States in the top three most lenient countries where procedures are performed, "joining only China and North Korea," said Meuser.

Meuser on Tuesday also spoke out about the federal prosecutors' announcement Monday that charges will not be brought against nine people associated with CBS' "Late Show with Stephen Colbert" who was arrested in a building in the U.S. Capitol complex in June.

"The Colbert staffers were trespassing and they should be dealt with in in the manner that other trespassers are," said Meuser. "Regardless of what their intent was, they were trespassing. They were told to leave and they very deliberately did not."

In other matters, Meuser commented on the impending trial of former Trump strategist Steve Bannon, telling Newsmax that the charges of Bannon not responding to a subpoena are coming from the "more than just suspect" Jan. 6 committee; they are a play against former President Donald Trump.

"It started fine but then they threw off Republicans and created a star chamber, a kangaroo court where they just stacked it with jurists that were not just favorable to the prosecution, but have contempt for the defendant," said Meuser. "The only defendant in this is really Donald Trump. That's what this case is ... if they got into security measures and things of that nature, maybe they have some credibility, but I don't think they do."

Further, Meuser commented on the recent drop in gas prices, insisting that the costs are going down as the United States heads into a recession.

"Recessions bring on less energy use and less productivity," said Meuser. "Thanks to this administration, that's what's happening here, and let's face it, this isn't exactly a profile of courage. It's a profile in cowardice, and that's probably what is leading to the president's approval ratings being as dismal as those of any modern president.

"The American people are smarter than this. They know what's the cause, and it's the Biden policies. It's the failed policies."
