Rep. Crenshaw: Media, Democrats Won't Dig Into Swalwell Scandal

(Fox News' "Fox & Friends")

Questions must be answered about Rep. Eric Swalwell's relationship with a suspected Chinese spy, but the media is not paying attention to it and Democrats have "no interest" in digging deeper into the issue, Rep. Dan Crenshaw, R-Texas, said Monday.

"The double standard of the mainstream media is one of the largest challenges of our times," Crenshaw told Fox News' "Fox and Friends." "Everybody knows it. It's infuriating. It's corrupt. It's disgusting, and it's got to stop."

According to an Axios investigation, links were discovered between Swalwell and suspected Chinese spy Fang Fang, aka Christine Fang, who was found to have been targeting several local politicians, particularly ones like Swalwell with the potential to move on to national office.

Swalwell, a member of the House Intelligence Committee, has not been officially accused of wrongdoing, and he cut ties with Fang soon after federal investigators alerted him about her. His office has not commented about the nature of his relationship with the suspected spy, who had sexual relationships with at least two Midwestern mayors.

"Questions have to be answered there, but the left-wing media has no interest in asking them, and the Democrats have no interest in asking them," Crenshaw said. "We need to know what kind of information made it from the intel committee to Swalwell's office, but we don't, they don't even seem to care."

Calls have grown from Republicans for Swalwell to be removed from the Intelligence Committee, but House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's spokesman Drew Hammill said last week she has "full confidence" in her fellow California lawmaker to remain on the committee.

Crenshaw said the Democrats' silence is part of a much larger issue because they do not appear to view China as a threat.

"[Joe] Biden didn't even try to campaign on this when asked about it," he said. "He dismissed it and said, 'oh, come on, China isn't going to eat our lunch, man.' His first goal, apparently, is to get back into the Paris climate accord, which only has one beneficiary: China."
