Super PAC Storms Democratic Strongholds

A conservative Super PAC is launching ads in seven supposedly safe Democratic states, convinced the electorate's growing anxiety over national security will be the defining issue of the 2014 midterm elections.

The ads are paid for by the Conservative War Chest (CWC), which won plaudits last year from talk-show host Rush Limbaugh and The Wall Street Journal's columnist Kim Strassel for "cracking the Democratic code" in key political races.

"If they are on the ballot and liberal, they are vulnerable," CWC spokesman Mike Flynn declared.

"The uncertainty and anxiety the public feels today is the result of a liberal world view that 'blames American first' in every crisis."

That should be a matter of "national discussion," Flynn said, "not confined to a handful of states that Washington politicians deem competitive."

The CWC's ad "Blame America First" is launching this week in these states, with their Democratic candidates:

Illinois, Dick Durbin; New Mexico, Tom Udall; New Jersey, Cory Booker; Virginia, Mark Warner; Michigan, Gary Peters; Minnesota, Al Franken; and Massachusetts, Edward Markey.

"Conservatives can win in all these states," Flynn said. "The Republicans in D.C. may be too timid to compete in Democratic territory, but the stakes are too important not to."

The ad castigates liberals for their failures regarding Russia, defense funding, relations with Israel, Benghazi, missile defense, North Korea, the Iraq pullout, and ISIS.

The super PAC has previously launched ad campaigns in support of Republicans in Iowa, Arkansas, Colorado, and North Carolina. The new ad also charges that North Carolina Democratic Sen. Kay Hagan has been exposed as a "puppet" of extreme liberal interests.

"We can't afford liberals like Hagan on domestic issues," Flynn said. "But we can't trust her on issues of our national security.

"Liberals are incapable of handling threats to national security, whether foreign enemies, terrorists, or global pandemics. They are preternaturally wired to put politics above the national interest."

Flynn noted that President Obama's recent appointment of Democratic political lawyer Ron Klain to spearhead the government's failing response to Ebola is "just the latest example of putting politics before security."

Flynn added that the new ad campaign "breaches liberal redoubts. Activists can take our ad and pass it on to their friends."

"This is an existential election. The whole nation needs to be part of this debate. With our new ad, they can be," he said.
