Texas Sen. Ted Cruz is running for president against real estate mogul Donald Trump, but, unlike many of his rivals, he isn't attacking Trump.
"Quite a few members of this field have attacked Donald Trump. A lot of folks in the media have asked me, 'Ted Cruz, will you do the same?'" Cruz told
Politico at the Freedom Partners summer conference in Dana Point, California.
"I have been glad to praise Donald Trump for speaking out boldly and brashly and for focusing on illegal immigration," Cruz said.
That hasn't been the case, with former Texas Gov. Rick Perry, who called Trump's campaign a
"cancer on conservatism" and South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham, who called Trump a
"jackass."
"When Reagan articulated the 11th Commandment it didn’t mean thou shalt not ever disagree with another Republican," Cruz said, though he admitted he is following the Gipper's advice not to speak ill of another Republican.
Cruz told Politico he would focus on "substance and policy" when he criticizes and of his GOP opponents.
