Tea party firebrand Sen. Ted Cruz has signed a book deal to write about his controversial time in Washington that triggered a million-dollar bidding war involving several publishers.
The Texas Republican, who is a contender for the GOP presidential nomination in 2016, is expected to receive a $1.5 million advance, according to the
Washington Examiner, quoting publishing sources.

During a four-day auction, leading publishing houses including St. Martin’s, Simon & Schuster and Humanix, a division of Newsmax Media, battled it out for the book rights, according to the Examiner. HarperCollins had the winning bid. HarperCollins is part of News Corp., whose executive chairman is Rupert Murdoch.
The book will recount the senator's showdowns with Democrats in the Senate, including his leadership role in shutting down the government in his fight to defund Obamacare, as well as his personal memoirs and long-term vision for America.
The battle to win the book rights follows the success of the best-selling coloring book "Ted Cruz to the Future," from Really Big Coloring Books, which flew off the shelves after its release in December, according to
U.S. News & World Report.
Cruz’s book deal tops the $1.25 million that former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, the GOP’s 2008 vice presidential nominee, was paid to write about her rapid rise in the Republican ranks, according to the Examiner.
The figure also easily surpasses the advances of Cruz’s potential presidential rivals in the GOP, including Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, ($800,000), former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee ($800,000), Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker ($340,000), Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul ($300,000 to $400,000), and Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal ($50,000 to $100,000), according to the Examiner.
The autobiography, which has not yet been written, will reveal how the 43-year-old politician became the first Hispanic to serve as solicitor general in Texas and then the tea party’s bullhorn senator.
Cruz has recently been crisscrossing the country, visiting key primary states in what is being seen as preparing to run for president in 2016.
