Crist Using Different Messages for Different Groups

Tuesday, 21 September 2010 03:10 PM EDT

Florida Gov. Charlie Crist, the former Republican who is running for Senate as an independent, has been accused of shamelessly drifting whichever way the wind blows. His latest campaign pamphlets certainly won’t put a halt to those accusations.

Politico cites two different campaign mailers that Crist recently sent. One targeted toward conservatives boasts that Crist has stood for “lowering taxes, saving taxpayer dollars and defending the right to bear arms.”

“Crist is trying to get Republican votes, Democratic votes and unaffiliated votes,” Pinellas County Democratic chair Ramsay McLauchlan told Politico. “Within those realms, he’s using different messages and different strategies. But he may be in the box that his constituents are so diverse that it is hard to be consistent in your appeal to those different groups.”
