Medium Suspends CPAC's Account, Claims Rule Violation

By    |   Wednesday, 19 October 2022 04:08 PM EDT

Publishing platform Medium suspended the Conservative Political Action Conference's account, claiming that it is either under investigation or in violation of site rules, Newsmax has learned.

The account had previously been used to host articles related to the 2022 conference held in Houston, Texas, as well as new content produced by CPAC-affiliated influencers, CPAC said.

"Medium joins a long list of Big Tech firms dedicated to stamping out conservative voices," said Matt Schlapp, chairman of the American Conservative Union, which runs CPAC. "The new majority next year should make them regret that."

Medium was contacted by Newsmax for comment.

CPAC appears aware of its controversial presence. The organization opted earlier this year to switch over to payment processor Revere Payments to eliminate the "risk of being deplatformed or restricted by financial institutions taking political stances."

"At Revere Payments, we believe in the freedom to do business, not cancel culture," Wendy Kinney, the CEO of Metrics Global, which operates Revere Payments, told Fox News. "Every day we partner with clients to eliminate their risk of being de-platformed or restricted by financial institutions taking political stances."

The news comes as Republicans plan to prepare an attack on Big Tech giants after the November midterm elections. GOP politicians have cited years of conservative voices being suppressed online as justification.

In May, top Republican congressional aides and congressman reportedly attended a retreat to discuss methods in which the new Congress could take on Silicon Valley, Axios reported.

"What's going to happen next Congress is, you've got to do four years of oversight in two years. That's going to be an immense lift, and it means that they cannot wait to get these committees situated," Mike Howell of The Heritage Foundation said.

"Big Tech is in the crosshairs. They're going to be subject to document requests and subpoenas and depositions."
