GOP Poll: Cotton Leads Pryor in Ark. Senate Race

By    |   Monday, 12 August 2013 11:21 AM EDT

An internal poll conducted for the National Republican Senatorial Committee in Arkansas shows that GOP Rep. Tom Cotton leads incumbent Democratic Sen. Mark Pryor by 2 percentage points.

According to Politico, which obtained the numbers, Cotton was ahead of the two-term senator 44 percent to 42 percent in a survey taken two weeks ago, even though his campaign wasn't launched official until last Tuesday.

Fifty-five percent of the 600 likely voters surveyed said Pryor's vote for Obamacare and Cotton's vote to repeal it would make them more likely to support the freshman congressman, while 33 percent said it would make them more likely to support Pryor.

The poll, conducted by On Message Inc. on July 29-30, also found that Pryor is viewed favorably by 41 percent of likely voters and unfavorably by 36 percent.

The latest survey, conducted by Harper Polling/Conservative Intel on Aug. 4-5 and released Aug. 6, found that Cotton has an early lead of 43 percent to 41 percent. That poll showed that Pryor is weighed down by a 40 percent unfavorable rating.

The survey also found
that Arkansas voters would prefer a Republican senator rather than a Democrat by a margin of 44 percent to 36 percent.
