Former New Jersey Democratic Gov. Jon Corzine obviously didn’t fare so well in his 2009 election against Republican Chris Christie. But President Barack Obama is bringing on the former Goldman Sachs chief to help his fundraising effort on Wall Street, the
New York Post reports.
The banking industry, which donated big-time to Obama’s campaign in 2008, is upset about all the new regulations under the Dodd-Frank financial reform law. And Corzine is in charge of soothing the bankers’ anger.
Corzine, who now heads the mammoth securities firm MF Global, has attended secret meetings with the president and has been working on Obama's 2012 campaign for months, the Post reports.
If Obama is re-elected, Corzine could snag a key ambassadorship or even the Treasury secretary post, the Post speculates.
