Poll: Majority in NJ Say Booker Wouldn't Make Good President

Forty-two percent of New Jersey residents say Sen. Cory Booker, D-N.J., would not make a good president, according to a new Monmouth University poll.

Thirty-seven say Booker, who has announced his bid for the Democratic presidential nomination, would make a good president. Twenty-one percent were undecided.

Here are the highlights from the New Jersey poll:

• 48 percent approve of the job he is doing as senator, while 36 percent disapprove
• 34 percent say he is able to run for president and serve effectively as senator at the same time, while 58 percent disagree
• 15 percent say he has a decent shot to become president. 22 percent say he has a decent chance to win the nomination, but not the general election. 28 percent say Booker is a long shot to win the nomination, but he could pull it off. 26 percent say there is now way he will win the nomination.
• 37 percent of New Jersey residents approve of President Donald Trump’s job performance, compared to 58 percent who disapprove.

The poll, conducted Feb. 8-10, surveyed 604 New Jersey adults. The margin of error is 4 percent.
