Texas Sen. John Cornyn is facing a challenge from fellow Republican Rep. Steve Stockman in the March primary, but his latest TV ad takes a swipe at President Barack Obama.
"Astonishingly liberal," says the narrator as the ad begins with a photo of the president. "An administration that has squandered our trust. Using backhanded methods to change the very fabric of American life. Who stands up to him? John Cornyn."
The ad, which also features video of the attack on the U.S. diplomatic mission in Benghazi and anti-Obamacare protests, continues, "Conservative. Pro-life. Lives the Second Amendment. Fights for truth from a dishonest administration. He stands up to Obama every day. Pushes back. John Cornyn's for us—for Texas."
Stockman, backed by the tea party, is trying to portray the Senate minority whip as a liberal Republican, despite the fact Cornyn was
rated the second most-conservative senator in 2011 and 2012 by the National Journal, reports USA Today.
Cornyn's ad is scheduled to run in Dallas-Fort Worth, San Antonio and Austin, while a Cornyn-supportive political action committee is running negative ads highlighting Stockman's failure in 2012 to file federally required disclosures about his income. The ads are running in his congressional district,
reports the Houston Chronicle.
