Top Democrat Donor Backs Corbett for Pa. Gov.

A major Pennsylvania Democratic donor, who raised more than $500,000 for President Obama’s reelection campaign, has announced that he will back Republican Gov. Tom Corbett's bid for reelection in 2014.

David Cohen, Executive Vice President of Comcast, hosted a fundraiser for Corbett at his home last month that brought in $200,000 for Corbett’s reelection campaign.

"I expect to support Gov. Corbett," Cohen told the Philadelphia Inquirer in an email message this week.

Cohen is a major player for Democrats on the national level. Obama's reelection campaign listed Cohen and his wife, Rhonda, as having raised more than $500,000 for the campaign.

A New York Times report in September 2012 disclosed that the Cohens had helped raise $1.44 million overall for Obama's reelection.

Cohen has reached across the aisle before. He has given money to House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, R-Va., Rep. Fred Upton, R-Mich., chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee; and Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, ranking member of the Senate Finance Committee.

Cohen also donated $1,500 to Corbett’s 2008 bid for reelection as Pennsylvania’s attorney general.
