Conway Slams Hillary: 'Stop Pretending You're a Feminist'

White House counselor Kellyanne Conway Thursday slammed 2016 Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton for comments she made about voters during a speech in India, telling her she should "stop pretending you're a feminist" in response to her comments that she lost because white women vote the way their husbands want them to.

"Stop pretending you're a feminist, you're for equality, you're for fairness for women, and then running around and accusing us of checking with our husbands and significant others before we vote," Conway commented during a Fox News "Fox & Friends" interview, while insisting she does not say the former secretary of state's name on television anymore.

"Let me tell you something, lady, that I or other women like me have to ask our husbands how to vote, it's really a joke," Conway also said. "I will appeal to you directly, particularly since the country knows who you are first and foremost because of who you married."

During a speech last weekend at the India Today Conclave in Mumbai, Clinton said she "won the places that are optimistic, diverse, dynamic, moving forward, but that she doesn't "do well with white men and we don't do well with married, white women, and part of that is an identification with the Republican Party, and a sort of ongoing pressure to vote the way that your husband, your boss, your son, whoever, believes you should."

"She lost the election because they saw her as somebody who had special privileges, somebody who didn't play by the rules and there wasn't fairness that applied," said Conway. "They were quickly reminded this week why they made a great choice in 2016."

Conway noted that there have been Democrats come out this week who are angry with Clinton.

"A lot of them are privately rolling their eyes, and many of them are publicly saying she shouldn't say that," said Conway. "She basically is, again, insulting half of the country, at least half of the country. . . so many Democrats want her to stop. So many Republicans want her to continue."

She added that the comment was "reminiscent of September 9, which I always told Mr. Trump, candidate was one of the worst days for Hillary Clinton because it was when she was revealed to have said 'basket of deplorables.' She wasn't sorry she said that. She was sorry she got caught saying that."

Conway on Thursday also called on Republicans to stop criticizing Republican candidates, while rejecting the idea that Trump could lose in 2020 if the House and Senate fall out of Republican control in the 2018 midterms.

"The party in power in the White House suffers grievous losses in the midterm elections," she said. "Bill Clinton lost control of the House and Senate in 1994. President Barack Obama lost 63 House seats in 2010, after first election. Both were successfully re-elected."

Trump, who has already announced his re-election campaign, is not looking at that at this time, but instead at this particular election cycle.
