In order of importance, I am a Roman Catholic, husband, father, American, conservative, friend, colleague and many other lesser vocations.

From my perspective, I am a work in progress on all of these fronts, because I fall far short of the excellence I've witnessed from others pursuing these vocations. I try to live my life to know love and serve Jesus Christ, my family, my country, my friends — and my colleagues.

My story may be different than most Americans, but I was blessed to be born at a time and in a place where I have been free to pursue each of these vocations.

However, today millions of Americans who share my values are increasingly concerned about their and their children’s ability to pursue their vocations, because the American Left has judged these traditional vocations as illicit.

I've been writing and speaking about the Left’s campaign to redefine and transform our society based on their values-structure for decades, as well as fighting to counter this cultural assassination by advocating for the good the true and beautiful in our society.

In 2005 I authored, "It Takes a Family," a book in which I described how progressives have taken over universities, the news media, Hollywood, public schools, foundations, organized labor, big business and government bureaucracies.

This leaves only the church and the family as a bulwark of and for traditional values.

Seventeen years ago, I predicted then, that an all out assault on religious liberty, marriage, parents and the values of western civilization would occur.

So, when this onslaught came I continued to advocate for the right of these forces of destruction to come to the public square and make their case for their abhorrent ideas.

Unlike the current woke mob, I never called for anyone to be fired or canceled for saying things that attacked me or my beliefs even though the Left has defamed me and consistently called for my canceling.

I often referred to myself as the canary in the mineshaft; for it was only a matter of time before the toxic movement would eventually wield its power to intimidate and cancel anyone daring to challenge their orthodoxy and demand all Americans to conform to their secular dystopian religion.

Some have capitulated and conformed, some are paying the price of resisting, but millions of Americans who experience this hostility and persecution in woke cities and states are fleeing to free states like Florida, Texas, and Tennessee.

This is exactly what the Framers of our constitution anticipated when they constructed (and structured) a federal republic made up of sovereign states.

Unlike the Left’s characterization of our Founding, it actually did provide for, and accepted, diversity. They didn’t celebrate diversity, they saw it as a natural condition requiring accommodation, while trying to weave together a union where we all could live harmoniously with a set of common principles in spite of our differences.

They knew that inevitably one of these diverse groups would seek to impose its will on the others, demanding conformity to their authoritarian power. That's one reason they limited the power of the federal government and placed the most of the power at the state and local levels.

But, what happens when the central government has the power to repress dissent and enforce adherence to their demands?

We have reached that time in America, because over the last century the limits on federal power have been gradually unshackled mostly by judicial amendments to our constitution, that is the U.S. Supreme Court systematically removing almost all limits on federal authority.

We've seen the Left seize the opportunity to grow the power of the federal government so it now regulates almost every aspect of American society while Washington Republicans fecklessly plead to move more slowly toward despotism.

Like a frog sitting in a pot of water on the stove, Americans have adjusted to this slow but unrelenting assault on their freedom with barely a croak.

Over the past decade, a group of radical authoritarian progressives has taken full control of the Democratic Party and they believe the stars have aligned for them to assert their will on all Americans.

These modern day Marxists used to be found only the faculty of elite universities, but they now populate Hollywood, the news media, corporate America, public education, and now even rule over almost all of our decaying cities and concurrently shrinking deep blue states.

The last two Democratic presidents who both ran under the false banner of uniting the diverse aspects of our country have ushered in this new authoritarianism to Washington to "unite" all Americans by imposing San Francisco and New York values on all 50 states.

All the time this radical transformation of American culture was taking place, the Left deployed its dupes and collaborators, controlling all of America’s institutions of power, to assert that these changes are to protect minorities and the oppressed. They attacked any dissenter as fascist cultural warriors or bigots and racists trying to impose their Christian or now white values on a diverse society.

The Founders actually knew this day would come, because throughout history republics have always fallen into authoritarianism. So they added the Bill of Rights to Constitution, most particularly the First and Second Amendments (and on the last days of the constitutional convention) provided for a failsafe in Article V of the Constitution.

The Founders empowered one group of Americans whom they trusted to act when, not if, despotism reared its head in the new country. That group of people would not be under the thumb of the authoritarian leader of the country and his national and global accomplices.

No, these would be ordinary Americans still closely tied to people all across America, state legislators.

Perhaps the most reticent founder, George Mason of Virginia, argued for a process to amend the Constitution that completely bypassed the federal government, so Gouverneur Morris of Pennsylvania and Eldridge Gerry of Massachusetts proposed, and the convention unanimously adopted, without debate, an addition to the Constitution — Article V — to give state legislatures the power to convene a convention of states, in order to propose changes to the Constitution.

Article V requires two-thirds of the Congress to propose amendments and likewise requires two-thirds of the states to pass a resolution to call a convention to propose amendments.

While there have been a number conventions among states, there has never been an Article V convention to propose constitutional amendments.

However, 10 years ago a group of conservative constitutional scholars stepped forward to propose a resolution to convene a convention of states that could stop the federal power grab we are witness to.

Under this resolution, only amendments that would limit federal spending, federal power, or terms of federal officials would be permitted to be considered.

To date this resolution has been passed by half the states needed to call a convention (17) and thanks in part to the actions of the Left in Washington, D.C. this past year several other states are likely to adopt the resolution in 2022.

Once 34 states pass this resolution, Article V states that Congress "must" call a convention.

All states would be invited to send a delegation selected by the state legislature to represent each state — at the convention. Each state, since they are equally sovereign entities, would have one vote at the convention.

Rules would be adopted by the convention to govern proceedings. Amendments would be developed, proposed and voted upon. Any amendment that receives a majority of 26 votes would be transmitted to the state legislatures of all 50 states for ratification. Article V then requires 38 states, (three quarters) to ratify the proposed amendment for it to be added to our constitution.

Millions of Americans experience anxiety, fear, hopelessness, and anger about the Left’s transformation of our nation. As a student of history, I'm concerned that in the short term the more extreme the pendulum swings to one side, it is destined to swing back just as hard to the other.

Conservatives need to channel all of these justified emotions into the convention of states movement. A movement using the tools the Founders provided to save our republic and maintain freedom for all Americans.

If liberals who are aghast at the tyranny of the Left and fearful of that power being used someday by a strongman of the right, they too would join this movement to limit Washington’s power, restoring federalism.

Think of how the power hungry elites in Washington will react when 34 states enact a resolution to call a convention to propose amendments to curtail their power.

Imagine our entire nation engaged in that debate — gavel to gavel national coverage; children actually being taught the Constitution in school; a national pause to take a good look at the America we want to bequeath to our children.

Freedom loving Americans are looking down the barrel of a gun and we are not the ones with our hand on the trigger.

If you agree the time is now to stop America from becoming another republic that ended with an authoritarian despot, you need to act.

Contact your state legislator and ask them to trust the Constitution, the Founders wisdom and themselves to stand up to Washington and vote for a convention of states: the last best hope to give your children a future where they can honor God, pursue their vocations and save America.
