The good news for Texas Sen. Ted Cruz in Indiana was that he captured voters who describe themselves as "very conservative," according to Fox News exit polling.
The bad news: Indiana voters weren't overwhelmingly conservative.
Here's how GOP voters described themselves:
- Very conservative: 32 percent
- Somewhat conservative: 44 percent
- Moderate: 22 percent
Indiana has open primaries, meaning voters do not have to be registered Republicans or Democrats to vote in the primaries, so many of them likely were independents — a likely help to front-runner Donald Trump, who has been declared the winner by major news organizations.
