Conservative Agenda Outlined at Two-Day Summit

By    |   Wednesday, 14 January 2015 04:53 PM EST

Conservatives gathered at The Heritage Foundation this week to draft their agenda for the newly Republican-led Congress to counter President Barack Obama's proposals he's set to lay out in his upcoming State of the Union address.

The Conservative Policy Summit, which was hosted by the sister organization, Heritage Action for America, took place on Monday and Tuesday, which is also when it released its publication "Opportunity for All, Favoritism for None," outlining a conservative policy agenda for the 114th Congress.

"We see the need to progress to a nimble, citizen-centered government where the people have many areas of their lives, not just the one choice offered by the government," said Heritage Foundation President Jim DeMint Monday.

"If we can do it with cellphones and computers, we can do it with healthcare and education, and especially values," DeMint explained.

"Americans must be free to decide what they believe and what they value without government-sponsored intimidation," he added.

Issues on the docket included education, cybersecurity, and energy, which are all topics the president is expected to address during his State of the Union address next Tuesday.
