Rep. Comer to Newsmax: Dems Should Support Hunter Biden Inquiry 'If He's Innocent'

Rep. James Comer, R-Texas, told Newsmax Tuesday that House Democrats should support an official inquiry into Hunter Biden's business dealings "if he's innocent."

"I cannot imagine the level of hypocrisy if the Democrats vote against this resolution of inquiry," Comer said during "Wake Up America" Tuesday. "I can guarantee you when they're in the minority next year, they're going to be filing resolutions of inquiry on anything and everything.

"This is our one effort today, this week, to get the information; and it comes at the right time because Joe Biden just went on national television and said his son's innocent. If his son is innocent, the Democrats can put this story to rest, and we won't have anything to talk about on a lot of conservative talk shows."

The resolution, H. Res. 1243, is scheduled for a committee vote today and requires President Joe Biden to hand over the family's business documents regarding overseas transactions.

"President Biden's family peddles access to the highest levels of government to enrich themselves, often at the expense of U.S. interests," Comer said in a press release about the resolution Monday. "We need to know if President Biden has received a cut from these shady foreign business deals. If President Biden or his immediate family has, that is a national security threat, and he may be compromised."

President Biden told the CBS News "60 Minutes" program Sunday that his son did not do anything illegal in his business dealings with foreign entities.

"I love my son, No. 1. He fought an addiction problem. He overcame it," Biden said during the televised interview. "He wrote about it. And no, there's not a single thing that I've observed at all from that would affect me or the United States relative to my son Hunter."

Comer, however, said an investigation is warranted.

"I can tell you with confidence. Hunter Biden has been influence peddling, as has Joe Biden's brother and that's why they continue to block Republican efforts on the oversight committee to conduct a meaningful, credible investigation," he said Tuesday.

Comer said that the committee is now directly requesting the information from the White House after the Treasury Department refused to disclose the estimated 150 "suspicious [financial] activity" reports compiled on the president's son.

He said any member of Congress could access those reports since the law went into effect under former President George W. Bush in the wake of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on New York and Washington, D.C.

That all changed when Biden took office in 2021, when he modified the rule, blocking Congress from getting the reports.

"Once I learned that Hunter Biden had 150 suspicious activity reports, then I figured out this is another effort by Joe Biden to block an investigation of his family, and another example of Joe Biden being compromised by Hunter's shady business dealings," Comer said.
