Quinnipiac Poll: GOP Leads Democrats Among Colorado Voters

By    |   Friday, 14 June 2013 03:31 PM EDT

Two of the Republican Party's most likely 2016 presidential candidates are leading the Democrats' top two possible contenders in a new survey of Colorado voters.

According to the poll of 1,065 registered voters by Quinnipiac University, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie would beat former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton 44 percent to 41 percent in the Centennial State if the race were held today and would trounce Vice President Joe Biden by a margin of 48 percent to 32 percent.

Meanwhile, Florida Sen. Marco Rubio would squeak by Clinton 46 percent to 45 percent and would beat Biden 48 percent to 35 percent, according the survey taken June 5-10.

"Colorado has emerged as an important swing state in presidential politics, and these very early numbers reinforce that perception," Tim Malloy, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute, said in a statement.

In the 2012 election, President Barack Obama beat Mitt Romney in Colorado 51 percent to 46 percent.
