Mixed Martial Arts fighter Colby "Chaos" Covington, who fights on the Ultimate Fighting Championship promotion, told Newsmax on Tuesday it's his belief he lost a recent title bout over his support for former President Donald Trump.
Covington said on "Eric Bolling The Balance" that the judges scored against him in his welterweight title fight at UFC 296 on Dec. 16 "because they obviously hate" Trump, who was in attendance. Covington lost by unanimous decision to welterweight champion Leon Edwards, who took all three judges' cards 49-46.
"My whole career, it isn't just this one fight, my whole career I've had to battle against the decks being uneven. You know the judges scoring against me because they obviously hate Trump," Covington told Bolling. "You know, all the people in these positions had big-time Trump Derangement Syndrome. So you know that's definitely hurt me in my career."
"So it's been tough, but, you know, I'd rather go out standing up for what I believe than bowing down and taking handouts from the devil. Literally, like the devil," Covington said. "You know, you see all these athletes taking these paychecks from Pfizer and just getting paid off to just talk about these disgusting left talking points. I'm not ever gonna sell my soul. No amount of money is ever gonna be able to buy me off."
Covington spoke to Trump at his seat before the fight started.
"So it's an honor to represent President Trump. He's the best and biggest fighter we've ever had in America," Covington added. "The guy could be enjoying his life on the most beautiful property in Palm Beach. But he said, 'No, I want to come back and fight for this country.' He wants to deal with the smear campaign of him and his family. He's willing to put up with all these RINOs [Republican In Name Only] coming after him for his love of God and country, so God bless President Trump."
Covington said on a podcast earlier Tuesday that he has aspirations to run for governor in his home state of Florida, saying it would be his "ultimate dream."
"The bigger the fight means the higher the calling and that's what Trump and I are doing right now," Covington told Bolling.
