Former President Donald Trump will only be acquitted if the jury includes his co-conspirators, says former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
"If Senate Republicans fail to convict Donald Trump, it won't be because the facts were with him or his lawyers mounted a competent defense," Clinton tweeted Wednesday morning. "It will be because the jury includes his co-conspirators."
House Democrats on Thursday were concluding their arguments for Trump's conviction at his Senate impeachment trial, one day after showing violent security footage to retell the storming of the U.S. Capitol. Trump's legal team begins its defense Friday.
The Senate will have to conclude whether to convict Trump of incitement of insurrection, but it is unlikely Democrats will garner the support of 17 GOP members, the number needed to hit the 67-vote threshold.
Only six Republicans voted the impeachment trial against Trump is constitutional: Sens. Bill Cassidy, R-La.; Susan Collins, R-Maine; Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska; Mitt Romney, R-Utah; Ben Sasse, R-Neb.; and Pat Toomey, R-Pa.
Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., told Politico on Wednesday he expects at least 44 Republican senators to acquit Trump.
"Everybody objects to that violence. Everybody is horrified by that violence," he said. "But the question is: Did the president incite that?"
