Club for Growth Action to Launch Ad Targeting Mike Simpson

By    |   Monday, 14 April 2014 11:32 AM EDT

The conservative Club for Growth Action will release an ad opposing Rep. Mike Simpson on  Tuesday, accusing the Idaho Republican of lying about his support for the $700 billion Wall Street bailout.

The group said that it is spending six-figures on the ad buy in the Gem State.

"Mike Simpson says he voted to repeal the Wall Street bailout," the ad begins with a male voiceover. "Fact checkers call that 'false.'"

Story continues below video.

The ad plays a clip of the Idaho Republican proudly saying that he voted for the bailout.

"I voted for the $700 billion bailout. Everybody got that?" Simpson says. "My name's Mike Simpson. I voted for the $700 billion bailout."

The Club for Growth PAC is supporting Idaho attorney Bryan Smith in a primary match-up against the sitting congressman.

"So when you see liberal Mike Simpson lying about conservative Bryan Smith, remember" what Simpson said, the ad concludes.

Club for Growth endorsed Smith in July as part of its "Primary My Congressman" campaign to support conservative candidates to challenge Republican lawmakers that it has labeled "RINOs," Republicans in Name Only. Simpson was listed as one the 10  RINOs that it accused of voting and supporting liberal policies too often.

"Mike Simpson lied to Idaho voters about his support for the $700 billion Wall Street bailout, and now it's time to hold him accountable," said Chris Chocola, Club for Growth president.

"Liberal Republicans are exactly why we have $17 trillion in debt, and no amount of desperate attacks on conservative Bryan Smith can change that fact," Chocola added. "Mike Simpson's words speak for themselves."
