Hillary Clinton holds a six-point lead in North Carolina and is virtually tied in Florida with Republican nominee Donald Trump, according to two NBC News/Wall Street Journal/Marist poll results Sunday in the battleground states.

Trump has trimmed Clinton's lead in Florida from three points earlier this month.

The latest results in a four-way race among likely voters in Florida:

  • Clinton 45 percent
  • Trump 44 percent
  • Libertarian Gary Johnson 5 percent.
  • Green Party's Jill Stein 2 percent.

North Carolina results in the three-way race (Stein is not on the ballot there):

  • Clinton 47 percent
  • Trump 41 percent
  • Johnson 8 percent

The polls were conducted Oct. 25-26, which is before FBI director James Comey's announcement the investigation of Hillary Clinton's private email server has been reopened.

Clinton leads early voting, which has opened, in both states: Florida, 54-37; North Carolina,61-33.

The Florida poll surveyed 990 registered voters (with a +/- 3.1 percent margin of error) and 779 likely voters (+/- 3.5 percent). North Carolina surveyed 1,018 registered voters (+/- 3.1 percent) and 780 likely voters (+/- 3.5 percent).
