ClearPath Action Fund, a clean energy group founded by a conservative entrepreneur, is backing Florida Rep. Carlos Curbelo for re-election.

"Carlos Curbelo has quickly proven to be a leader among Republicans in protecting the environment and expanding the development of clean energy, lowering energy costs for families, creating jobs and protecting South Florida's environment," founder Jay Faison said, according to The Hill.

ClearPath released results from a poll it commissioned that showed voters were likely to favor Curbelo, a Republican, once they learned about his support for clean energy.

Curbelo is a main sponsor of a House resolution that seeks Republican support for the fight against climate change. He leads a bipartisan caucus that aims to get parties to work together on climate change solutions. Curbelo opposes President Barack Obama's Clean Power Plan and other Democrat climate policies.

The Florida lawmaker has also looked at ways to curb illegal immigration. He filed a proposal on illegal immigration that would allow a path to citizenship for illegal immigrants if they got to the U.S. before 2010 and were younger than 16 then, according to the Miami Herald.

Curbelo told The New York Times he would consider voting for a third-party candidate instead of Donald Trump. Hispanics in his district were outraged at Trump's statements about Latinos.

"Resentment is a kind way of putting it. People are offended and really incredulous," Curbelo said.
