President Donald Trump on Wednesday bashed Missouri Sen. Claire McCaskill for using her private plane during what she billed as an RV tour of her state, calling the embattled Democrat "phony" and endorsing her Republican opponent.
"RV's are not for her," Trump said on Twitter. "People are really upset, so phony.
"Josh Hawley should win big, and has my full endorsement."
McCaskill confirmed a Tuesday report in The Washington Free Beacon that she used her private plane during a three-day RV tour last month.
The Free Beacon used GPS-based tracking data to follow the route as her "BigBlue" recreational vehicle in her "Veterans for Claire" tour May 29-31.
"I added some stops with the use of the plane, but I was on the RV so much that the broken drawer drove me crazy," McCaskill told Politico on Tuesday at the Capitol, adding "I even lost an iPad around a corner on the RV."
However, she disputed the idea that using the plane allowed her to "pretend" she was using an RV rather than the jet, purchased by her husband's company in 2013.
Hawley, the Missouri attorney general, is challenging McCaskill's bid for a third term — and the Real Clear Politics polling average shows her leading by only 1.7 percent.
In addition, Trump congratulated two Republican winners in Tuesday primaries: Nevada business executive Danny Tarkanian in his House race and Kevin Cramer in the North Dakota Senate primary.
