Incoming Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., likes President-elect Donald Trump's trillion-dollar proposal to improve America's infrastructure — as long as it meets Democratic criteria, ABC News reported.
Schumer, in an interview with ABC News' Jon Karl and Rick Klein during their podcast "Powerhouse Politics," said, "We think it should be large. He's mentioned a trillion dollars. I told him that sounded good to me.
"We're not going to oppose something simply because it has the name Trump on it, but we will certainly not sacrifice our principles just to get something done," he said.
Schumer said he has had four or five cordial phone conversations with Trump already.
He noted Democrats and Trump can join together on the issue of trade, but while he does not agree with all of Trump's solutions, he does agree with his "diagnosis."
The two men do remain at odds over the issue of Russia interfering with the presidential campaign, Politico reported.
Schumer is pushing for a congressional probe into Russia's meddling in the election, while Trump has publicly expressed doubts Moscow interfered.
