Grassley: Enough Docs Available for Dems to Make Kavanaugh Decision

(Fox News/"Fox & Friends")

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, said more than enough documents are available for Democrats to make an informed decision on whether Brett Kavanaugh should be confirmed to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Grassley made his comments on Fox News' “Fox & Friends.” They follow the Trump administration’s decision on Friday to withhold more than 100,000 pages of Kavanaugh’s records from the George W. Bush White House on the basis of presidential privilege.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer called it “a Friday night document massacre.”

But Grassley noted documents readily available are equal to or more than “all five Supreme Court nominees” prior to Kavanaugh.

“So, we have got more documents on this person than anybody else in the history of the Supreme Court nominees."

Grassley was asked how he thought the eventual Senate confirmation vote on Kavanaugh will go.

“If we keep 50 Republicans together, so that they know that (Kavanaugh) is going to be approved, then I think we will get four or five Democrats,” he said. “But I don't think Schumer will let any Democrat make the 50th vote.”

Grassley’s comments came as the Judiciary Committee was set to open hearings on Tuesday on Kavanaugh.
