New Jersey Republican Gov. Chris Christie released his first re-election TV ad Wednesday, playing up his bipartisanship.
The ad — "Chris Christie: Jersey Proud" — began playing in the New York and Philadelphia markets Wednesday morning. It cost $1.2 million, according to Politico.
“Four years ago, New Jersey was broken: runaway spending, the nation’s highest taxes and unemployment on the rise," the ad's narrator says.
"Then we elected Chris Christie. He made the tough decisions to get New Jersey back on track. Taxes cut. Spending cut. Government made smaller and smarter. A real property tax cap. Working with Democrats and Republicans, believing that as long as you stick to your principles, compromise isn’t a dirty word."
Out of that came four balanced budgets in a row and no new taxes for anyone, the ad says. "The best job growth in 12 years. Nearly 130,000 new private sector jobs. Merit pay to reward New Jersey’s best teachers. And the most education funding, ever."

Campaign manager Bill Stepien said in a statement about the ad, “Four years ago, New Jerseyans elected Gov. Christie to do the tough, necessary things to shake up Trenton, restore fiscal responsibility and bring New Jersey back from the brink of catastrophe. . . . He’s restored New Jerseyans’ faith in their state and their government.”
Christie faces re-election in November. Polls show he holds a massive lead over his likely Democratic opponent, state Sen. Barbara Buono.
