While New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is no fan of his GOP presidential rival Donald Trump, he says Trump is far preferable to the Democrats' front-runner, Hillary Clinton.
Appearing on ABC's "This Week,"
Christie was asked about his claim that World War III already is underway with Islamic terrorists.
"You have said that if Donald Trump gets the nomination, your comfortable with him as commander in chief, are you really comfortable with him as commander in chief in a world War III situation?" host George Stephanopoulos asked.
"More comfortable than with Hillary Clinton, because she's the one who's got us into the World War III situation, with Barack Obama," Christie said. "I mean, think about it: She said last night, we're finally where we need to be on ISIS (the Islamic State.)"
"We're not?" Stephanopoulos asked.
"Oh, my gosh. With dead bodies in Paris, with dead bodies in San Bernardino, and with no plan from this administration about how to deal with it, we're finally where we need to be?" Christie said. "Mrs. Clinton is Mrs. Happy Talk. She just wants to happy talk her way to the presidency. She's the personification of this administration. Are you going to believe me or your lying eyes?"
Christie pointed to Clinton's dodging a question in Saturday's debate about whether she bore responsibility for the chaos in Libya because of her support for toppling dictator Moammar Gadhafi.
"If Libya was a shining success and a democracy, Mrs. Clinton would be dancing around the stage talking about how it was her idea and she recommended it to the president," Christie said.
Christie still faces criticism over his own Bridgegate scandal that he says involved staffers and not himself personally.
Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul brought it up in last week's GOP debate, but Christie called it "commentary from a desperate candidate on the last legs of his campaign."
The low-polling Paul, Christie said, reminded him of Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal in the last debate. Days later, Jindal quit the race.
"Maybe that's Rand Paul's fate," Christie said.
