Liz Cheney Outraises Enzi in Third Quarter

Liz Cheney Outraises Enzi in Third Quarter

Liz Cheney, who is challenging incumbent Wyoming Sen. Mike Enzi in the Republican primary next year, pulled in $1 million in campaign contributions in the third quarter, compared to $850,000 for Enzi, The Hill reports.

Enzi's total, however, represented a major increase from $100,000 in the second quarter. He now has $1.2 million in cash on hand.

The three-term senator said in a statement on his fundraising efforts that he was "humbled by the overwhelming support" he's received across the state.

Polls show Enzi with a commanding lead in his bid for re-election. According to a Harper Polling survey of likely GOP voters conducted in July, he leads Cheney 55 percent to 21 percent.

The campaign has grown heated, with Cheney accusing the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) of engaging in "dirty tricks" by sponsoring a push-poll against her.

Cheney, the daughter of former vice president Dick Cheney, was discouraged from challenging Enzi by a number of Republicans and the NRSC, which indicated early on that it would support the incumbent's re-election effort.
