Billionaire Charles Koch's network of conservative political advocacy groups is keeping its promise of staying out of President Donald Trump's reelection bid despite how close polls are.

CNBC reported that the Koch network of groups, which includes Americans for Prosperity, is throwing money at down-ballot candidates. But it is not supporting Trump's campaign as he tries to win another term in office.

The group has several reasons for steering clear of the presidential race, according to CNBC. Among them are disagreements with how Trump has used tariffs in the trade war with China, Trump's attempts at erasing the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, and Trump's personality.

"All I can tell you is that there is a clear difference in style and approach," a source told CNBC. If the Koch group opted to get involved in the presidential election, "you're still going to forsake the ability to persuade and advocate for policy change reforms at the other levels, regardless of whether you're going after Obama, or getting involved with Trump and his uncouth style."

CNBC noted that Americans for Prosperity spent in excess of $30 million to help Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney in the 2012 election.

The Koch network previously said in January 2019 that it would stay out of the 2020 presidential race.
