Fla. Chamber of Commerce Endorses Scott, Bondi

Friday, 17 September 2010 06:45 AM EDT

TALLAHASSEE – The Florida Chamber of Commerce today endorsed Rick Scott for governor of Florida, and Pam Bondi in the race for attorney general.

The chamber noted that both candidates possess qualities closely aligned with the Florida Chamber’s Six Pillars of Florida’s Future Economy, and will help lead the state toward prosperity and high paying jobs, vibrant communities and global competitiveness.

The Florida Chamber strongly supports Rick Scott’s plan for creating jobs and strengthening the state’s economy, stating in a press release:

“Rick Scott’s 35 years experience in creating jobs is the type of leadership that Florida’s economy needs,” said Steve Halverson, CEO of The Haskell Company and Chair of the Florida Chamber of Commerce.

“Rick understands the central role businesses are to the health of our state’s economy, and his jobs creation plan will help develop the business climate needed for high-wage, high-skill jobs.”

“I am honored to receive the endorsement of the Florida Chamber of Commerce, which represents so many of our Florida small businesses, the backbone of our state’s economy,” Scott said.

“As a business owner, I personally know what it takes to build a company, as governor I want to ensure every business has the tools to prosper and do what they do best, create jobs. I look forward to working with chamber members to keep taxes low, reduce job-killing regulations and get Florida back to work with my 7-7-7 jobs plan.”

Pam Bondi’s years as a prosecutor have developed the unshakeable pro-business convictions needed to excel as Florida’s top law enforcement officer. Bondi’s common-sense approach to law enforcement, consumer protection, and upholding Florida’s constitution will serve the state well in confronting the challenges that are ahead for Florida.

“Pam Bondi’s nearly two decades of courtroom experience makes her the best prepared candidate for attorney general,” said Halverson. “Her strong beliefs and clear-headed sensibility are qualities that will allow her to uphold the law and defend the rights of Florida businesses and consumers.”

Halverson added that Pam Bondi is a fourth generation Floridian that will put Florida first.

"The Florida Chamber of Commerce is helping to lead the effort to create jobs in Florida, and I am honored by their endorsement," said candidate Pam Bondi. "I look forward to working with them to making Florida safe, secure, and more prosperous for everyone."

As the leading voice of business, the endorsement allows the Florida Chamber to encourage its 139,000-member businesses and organizations to pledge their support to Scott and Bondi.
